[ARCHIVED] West Broadway Urban Village Infrastructure Update

West Broadway Construction

WBUVBroadway Avenue is getting over $7 million in street improvements. This will result in wider sidewalks, new bicycle lanes, bulb-outs for safer pedestrian crossing, a signal light at Alhambra, and one less traffic lane in each direction. Broadway on-street parking will remain available. Traffic is expected to flow smoother due to the signal light. Construction began with tree work in January 2017 and completion is anticipated late Spring 2018.

The project started at the Fremont end of Broadway, moving towards Del Monte. Broadway is now a one-way street (temporarily) through the end of the project. Traffic will move from Fremont West toward Del Monte during the current phase of construction. This allows for parking on one lane Please be patient during the project and drive carefully. Construction is expected to be complete late Spring 2018.

COMPLETED Week OF September 25

MPE installed the last Hydro Dynamic Separator (HDS) and weir drainage structure east of Calaveras Street. Another MPE crew completed the subgrade for the new curb, gutter, and sidewalk to be installed on the south side of Broadway, from Hillsdale to Alhambra Streets. The electrical subcontractor (Darrel Varni Electric) constructed new streetlight foundations from Hillsdale to Alhambra Streets. In addition, MPE demolished and removed sidewalk from Alhambra to Calaveras Streets, removed asphalt paving there, and installed the temporary lights on wood poles. The subcontractor, Aparicio Concrete, began constructing forms for the curb and gutter west of Hillsdale Street.   MPE employed three crews and two subcontractors for a total of 8-16 laborers/operators/foreman this week.

Monterey Peninsula Engineering (MPE) was awarded the construction contract on March 2, 2017 to construct the West Broadway Urban Village Infrastructure Improvements Project.  MNS Engineers (MNS) was retained to perform construction management services for the City overseeing the contractor’s daily operations and management of the project.  MNS staff includes a survey crew, resident engineer, construction inspector, material testing, and environmental biologist.  MNS employs a full time construction inspector for the project who is onsite daily.  Surveying crew and material testing is provided as needed.
