A Message from Fire Chief Mary Gutierrez

Chief Gutierrez at City Hall

I am proud to serve as the Fire Chief for the City of Seaside and Del Rey Oaks. The Seaside Fire Department is committed to ensuring rapid response and service to its residents.  We pride ourselves in accomplishing this with professionalism and compassion.  The Seaside Fire Department has 27 full-time firefighters and 6 Reserve Firefighters.  We will be launching a Firefighter Cadet Program in 2023 called CHAMP.  This will be the first program of its kind for Seaside Fire. We will be recruiting youth 14 – 20 years old to join the program.  We strive to empower our youth though mentorship and an introduction to the path to become a firefighter. The Seaside Fire Department has a recognized Hazardous Materials Program and Drone Program.  Our Volunteer Drone program provides opportunities for civilians and uniformed firefighters to provide a valuable service to all Monterey County Police and Fire agencies.  Additional programs include citizen CPR classes and instruction on how to install child car seats. Our fire station has a recent exterior renovation demonstrating the pride of city leadership. Please do not hesitate to stop by, ring the doorbell and meet our amazing team.

Seaside Fire Department Community Driven Strategic Plan

SFD has decided to seek Accreditation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) in order to assess and improve service delivery to the communities of Seaside and Del Rey Oaks.FD Strategic Plan Logo

In 2019 the department conducted a Community Driven Strategic Plan working with key  internal and external stakeholders and the development of strategic initiatives.

The department believes this work will help build more effective strategies that align with the values of the communities. Click there to access the plan, including major goals and to understand more about the accreditation process.

The plan was delivered to the City Council in early 2020.
